This week the new artwork went up at the salon – a whole lot of glam with just a touch of naughty. Mistinguett has had an impressive career in Vegas as a showgirl, choreographer, art & costume designer. These works are the drawings from the costume designs. They can be purchase framed or customized to the size you want.
A longtime friend and guest of Gary’s, we are thrilled to have someone from our “family” presenting at the salon.

Our Fall Career Fair was this week and it was the best one ever! With over 40 salons attending, it was a packed house. Our Career Fairs are held twice a year and allow salons and spas from the area to network, meet our Future Professionals and see their work.
The Fashion Show was amazing! Over 25 teams of Future Professionals created looks for two models using the theme “Head and Shoulders Above the Rest.” Great job everyone – can’t wait to see what you create in the Spring.

Future Professionals and Learning Leaders from GMAI helped do the hair and makeup for the DASS Dance Company’s performance of “Fighting Water.” “It was a fun challenge to keep the hair and makeup looking great during the active and water-filled performance,” said Tawyna, a GMAI Learning Leader. Part of the ticket sales went to support Puget Soundkeeper Alliance.

Several Future Professionals from GMAI will be doing the hair & makeup for DASS Dance Company’s show, Fighting Water. 10% of the proceeds will go to support Puget Soundkeeper Alliance. Shows are this Friday and Saturday at the Langston Hughes Performing Arts Center. Tickets are available at Brown Paper Tickets.
Fighting Water with DASS
Twice a year, recent graduates from our training program put on a fashion show for GMS & GMAI team members (including FP’s) at GMAI. they spend weeks creating the theme, hair & makeup looks. This time we had SIX graduates – Sydney, Dan, Audrey, Parker, Kami and Opal. It was especially exciting as Parker, Dan and Opal were the first GMAI graduates to begin working at Gary Manuel Salon. Kudos to all!
Last week a team of Future Professionals and stylists from Phase 3 and Gary Manuel did the hair & makeup for the models at Seattle Fashion Week’s first event – a “Project Runway” style competition for young fashion designers. The prize – a chance to show their collection at Seattle Fashion Week in April. Heather Dobson, a stylist from GMS who is also on our Creative Team, was a guest judge.
A big shout out to our team from GMAI – Tawnya, Sicily, Tyson, Annika and Laura – who did a fantastic job at Big Oscar Night!
Gary Manuel Aveda Institute hosted the Beauty Bar for the VIP guests of Big Brothers Big Sisters. They received hair and makeup finishing touches as well as hand massages. VIP guests also received a swag bag with a gift from GMAI of a free facial and shampoo/style (along with a few products.) We helped BBBS raise over $5,000 that evening – their highest donation yet for that event.
